Is it Company Culture… or Just a Great Place to Work?

At Brandon Rushing, it’s two sides of the same coin

When I was 12 (and in desperate need of pocket money) I started writing letters to the neighbors, offering to help them with their yard work. I had no idea that summer job would lead to a lifelong obsession with the beauty of nature — and a passion to help people care for their properties.

That passion is shared by all the people who work at Brandon Rushing and we now service over 1,000 properties in northern Virginia, specifically Fairfax, Arlington and Alexandria.

In many ways, we’ve become a “destination company” — many of our team members came to work with us because they were looking for something different. They wanted rewarding work where they could be outdoors — without having to give up all the fun stuff that comes with living in a city.

A mere stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of Washington, D.C., the area is a combination of history and culture and boasts more than its share of trendy shops and restaurants — as well as a network of biking and nature trails. There’s always something to do!

What does it really mean to be a “destination” company?

We like to think of a “destination company” as a place where people come and hang their hats. They’re not interested in a job… they want to nurture their talents, build their skills and enjoy a rewarding career.

But to attract these passionate people, you need to create a positive company culture where they can thrive — and relay that culture through social media, word-of-mouth and a solid reputation.

How to establish a positive company culture

We want you to feel proud of your home and have the time to enjoy it. Our mission is to ensure your yard looks great and you feel good about your experience with us.

We wouldn’t be able to complete this mission without the support of everyone on our team. So our goal is to hire people who believe in this mission as much as we do — and make sure they have fun doing it.

So call it company culture… or just a great place to work.

Hire for character and attitude

Skills can be taught, but it’s difficult to change someone’s basic character or attitude — it’s far better to employ people who share the same passion and values and offer them training to improve their current skills or develop new ones.

There are no dead-ends at Brandon Rushing. With clearly defined career paths, our team members can decide for themselves where and how they want to grow. And because we take the time to nurture talent, you can be confident your property is being cared for by professionals.

Paid training is just one of the benefits our team members enjoy…

We’re not your typical workplace.

We care about our team members on a personal level and share their excitement as they work toward their goals. Weekly training is available for most positions, with periodic professional classes — like becoming certified in pesticide application.

But the benefits don’t end there. We also offer:

  • Paid time off and holiday pay to full-time employees so they can rest and relax — and come back fired up and ready to go!
  • Health and dental insurance — we believe in keeping our employees healthy so they can keep your property healthy!
  • A 401(k) retirement plan so our employees can save for the future.
  • A great company culture — whether it’s a summer barbecue, our annual Christmas party or any of the exciting events in between, we take time to have fun!
  • Competitive wages, plus the opportunity to earn more each year by meeting our objectives. This incentivizes our mission and reinforces our obsession with providing the best property care in the area.
  • Full-time employment all year — you’ll get to know the team members who are working on your property, and they’ll start to feel like family.
  • The opportunity to work with top-notch tools, equipment and vehicles to get the job done right.
  • A safe workplace and safe job sites — we provide all the gear and personal protective equipment to keep our workers safe and reduce accidents.
  • Comfortable uniforms that are smart and professional — we believe when you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you do amazing work!

But, if you ask our team members, the most rewarding thing about working at Brandon Rushing is looking at beautifully manicured lawns and gardens — and knowing that their labor has made a difference in someone’s life.

The company has grown a lot since I started knocking on doors over two decades ago, but we’re still a family-owned business that values an honest day’s work and puts family first.
